“It’s a good feeling to be part of a department which is so passionate about the subject, and there is no doubt about that! In English lessons you can expect a combination of challenging work and good humour. I enjoy the creative aspect of this subject but I am still very pleased to be studying the most important texts in the English language.”
Joseff Rogers, Year 12
Entry Requirements:
You should have gained at least grades B in both English and English Literature GCSE.
What is English Language and Literature?

This qualification is a combination of elements of the Literature and Language A Levels, though the texts are largely different. You will be given the opportunity to study traditional and contemporary texts, both written and spoken.
Course Content:
Unit 1 Poetry and unseen texts and creative writing
Unit 2 Modern drama e.g. A Streetcar Named Desire B and non-fiction e.g. In Cold Blood, Truman Capote
Unit 3 Shakespeare e.g King Lear
Unit 4 Unseen texts (one of which will be spoken language) and prose study e.g. The Colour Purple, Alice Walker
Unit 5 Genre study e.g. gothic, dystopia, war and creative writing.
Possible Careers:
